US President Joe Biden has signed into law the historic “Justice for Victims of War Crimes” Act, giving the US Department of Justice (DOJ) jurisdiction, regardless of nationality, to prosecute people in the US who are accused of war crimes committed anywhere in the world. have.

Passed with strong bipartisan support, the law better aligns with the United States, its allies, and the Geneva Conventions, allowing individuals to be prosecuted for war crimes anywhere in the world if they come to the United States.

Former President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa has also been accused of war crimes, and under this new situation, if he enters America, he has the ability to file a case if necessary.

This law, passed with strong bipartisan support, better aligns the US with our allies and the Geneva Conventions, and gives DOJ the ability to try Russians responsible for war crimes in Ukraine should they come to the US. 2/2
