According to sources attorney General is to file an appeal with the Colombo High Court next week against the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s decision to acquit Wasantha Mudalige, the convener of the Inter-University Student Union, who was arrested and remanded under the Prevention of Terrorism Act.
Sources indicates this appeal will be filed as per a request made by the the police headquarters today (02) to file an appeal before the Colombo High Court against the order given by the court.
The suspect had been presented to the court under case number B 80303/01/22 of the Colombo Magistrate’s Court, and the Colombo Chief Magistrate ruled that no offense was detected against the suspect as per the said Act and issued an order releasing the suspect on the 31st of last year.
