Julie Chung, the US Ambassador to Sri Lanka, has urged the public to participate in peaceful protests.
In a tweet, she also urged the Sri Lankan military and police to give protesters enough space and security to carry out peaceful demonstrations.
The US Ambassador stated that violence is not the solution to the current problems, and that chaos and force will not fix the economy or bring the political stability that Sri Lankans require right now.
“Violence is not an option.” If you must protest, please do so peacefully. And reminding the military and police to give peaceful protesters adequate space and security. “Chaos and force will not bring the economic or political stability that Sri Lankans require right now,” said US Ambassador to Sri Lanka Julie Chung in a tweet.
Large-scale anti-government public demonstrations are planned for today and tomorrow in response to the various crises in Sri Lanka, including a lack of fuel, gas, and medicines.”
