US Senators Dick Durbin, Patrick Leahy, and Cory Booker have all put forward the same resolution.

Menendez, who is in charge of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, said that the resolution brings attention to the terrible political and economic turmoil that the people of Sri Lanka are going through. He also said that the international community should keep giving Sri Lanka strong support and make sure that people who commit war crimes are punished and that people’s rights are respected.

“I applaud the efforts of the Biden administration, our Quad partners, and the IMF to provide important humanitarian and economic aid, and I promise to keep working with my colleagues to bring stability and prosperity to Sri Lanka and the rest of the region. Chairman Senator Menendez said.

Senator Durbin said, “After decades of war, bad politics, and unfairness, that hasn’t been fixed.” The people of Sri Lanka have made it clear that they want something better. “Today’s resolution shows that the U.S. “The Senate backs peaceful democratic efforts to deal with these long-ignored problems,” he said. “The Senate supports peaceful democratic efforts to deal with these problems.” “These have been ignored for a long time,” he said.

Senator Booker said, “The Sri Lankan people have made it clear that they want their government to fix the terrible economic and humanitarian crises that are happening in their country.”

The resolution praises the Biden administration and other Quadrilateral Security Dialogue (Quad) members for their support of Sri Lanka. It also asks the UN Human Rights Council to extend its war crimes accountability resolution. This urges Sri Lankan security forces to respect Sri Lankans’ right to protest peacefully. Furthermore, it urges President Ranil Wickremesinghe to work with opposition parties and ethnic minority groups to solve the crisis.
