Under the new security agreement between the United States and Japan, the United States has reaffirmed its full commitment to defending Japan against any form of attack. This commitment includes the use of all available military and defense capabilities, including nuclear weapons.
During official discussions held between the two countries under the updated security policy framework, it was clearly stated that the United States is prepared to utilize its nuclear capabilities as well as its full conventional military strength in response to any nuclear or conventional military threat directed at Japan.
Although Japan does not possess nuclear weapons, it remains protected under the American nuclear umbrella, known as extended deterrence. By reinforcing Japan’s security posture in the Indo-Pacific region, the United States has also sent a clear message to rival powers regarding its firm commitment to Japan’s defense.
