The United National Party (UNP) Working Committee reached a unanimous decision yesterday (20) to initiate discussions on a potential merger with the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB).
The committee convened in the afternoon at the UNP headquarters, Sirikotha, in Pitakotte, under the leadership of former President and UNP Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe.
In addition to the merger discussions, the Working Committee resolved to contest the forthcoming elections as the United National Front (UNF), in collaboration with other political parties.
The merger talks will be spearheaded by UNP Deputy Leader Ruwan Wijewardene and General Secretary Thalatha Athukorala, who will represent the party in these discussions.
