A special meeting between members of the United National Party (UNP) and the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) was held today (February 14) in the Kolonnawa area.
The program, chaired by Member of Parliament S.M. Marikkar, was organized with the primary objective of reuniting the two major political camps that are currently divided.
Addressing the gathering, MP S.M. Marikkar stressed that under the present political climate in the country, it is futile for democratic forces to remain fragmented.
A large number of activists representing both parties attended the meeting. During the event, a key resolution stating that “the United National Party and the Samagi Jana Balawegaya should reunite” was unanimously adopted as a significant and decisive step forward.
Political commentators note that the meeting has laid the groundwork for the formation of a broad alliance targeting the upcoming elections, while also helping to bridge the gap between grassroots members of the two parties at the village level.
