Minuwangoda Electoral Organizer of the United National Party (UNP), Ashu Marasinghe, stated today that a group of candidates, referred to as “cylinder candidates,” are responsible for the downfall of former President Ranil Wickremesinghe. He urged that these individuals should not continue to hold influence in the upcoming parliamentary election.
Speaking to the media on November 9, Marasinghe emphasized that more authentic UNP members should be elected to parliament, instead of those he alleges have weakened the party and obstructed access to the President. He asserted that these individuals, despite their previous successes, have contributed to undermining the UNP’s mission and should be defeated.
Marasinghe further expressed concern over the current absence of UNP General Secretary Palitha Range Bandara. He also indicated intentions to appoint former Member of Parliament Thalatha Athukorala in a prominent role in the future.
