A United Nations human rights report has revealed that conflict-related sexual violence in Sri Lanka amounts to a serious violation of international law.
The report states that the government must urgently take steps to publicly acknowledge past incidents of sexual violence and ensure justice for victims through an effective judicial and legal framework.
According to the report, conflict-related sexual violence in Sri Lanka is occurring at an alarming rate, while many victims continue to suffer in silence without seeking redress.
It further emphasizes the urgent need for a dedicated legal framework to address conflict-related sexual violence and stresses that safeguarding the dignity of victims must be a central priority.
