A senior officer of the prisons department said that apart from this man, Sellaiya Navaratnam, another former LTTE member, S. Sanmugaraja, who was serving a life sentence, has been pardoned by the President.
Thus, they were released from prison on the 18th.
The age of Sellaiya Navaratnam, who had been sentenced to two hundred years in prison by the High Court and later confirmed by the Court of Appeal in relation to the Central Bank bombing, is now 69 years old.
A spokesman for the prisons department said that he was pardoned by the president based on good behavior.
Meanwhile, 56-year-old S. Sanmugaraja, who was pardoned by the President, was sentenced to life imprisonment.
He was convicted on charges of transporting goods to the LTTE.
