Two petitions filed against the Secretary of the Ministry of Finance Mr. Mahinda Siriwardena are scheduled to be called before a five-member Supreme Court bench tomorrow (30).

These are two petitions that have been filed accusing them of insulting the court by not implementing the orders issued by the Supreme Court by preventing the retention of the funds allocated in the 2023 budget for the holding of the local government polls.

Accordingly, the relevant petitions are scheduled to be called before the five-member Supreme Court bench of Chief Justice Jayantha Jayasuriya, Buwaneka Aluvihare, Priyantha Jayawardena, Vijith Malalgoda and Murdu Fernando.

Samagi Jana Balawega General Secretary and Member of Parliament Ranjith Madduma Bandara and National Jana Balawega Member of Parliament Vijitha Herath had presented the relevant petitions.

The petitioners claim that the Supreme Court issued an interim order to the Secretary of the Ministry of Finance on the 03rd of this month preventing the withholding of the money estimated in the 2023 budget document for holding the local government polls.

The petition has also indicated that the Court issued another interim order to the Secretary of the Ministry of Finance, preventing the withholding of funds allocated to the Government Printing Press for printing ballot papers.

But the Secretary of the Ministry of Finance has filed a petition before the Supreme Court alleging that he has not acted in accordance with those orders and that he has insulted the court.
