Anatolian University musicians deliver an evocative evening of classical Turkish music
The British Council in Colombo hosted a memorable cultural evening on 3 November, as the Anatolian University Music Ensemble presented a rich selection of classical Turkish compositions to an appreciative audience.
Organised by the Embassy of the Republic of Türkiye, the performance featured vocalist Pelin Demirçe Altıntaş, Meriç Dizbaş on tanbur and bağlama, and Yasin Bol on the oud. The trio performed across several traditional makams, blending technical mastery with emotional depth.
Opening remarks were delivered by British Council Country Director Orlando Edwards and Turkish Ambassador Semih Lütfü Turgut, who underscored the importance of cultural exchange in strengthening bilateral ties.
The ensemble’s expressive performance—moving effortlessly from contemplative classical pieces to lively rhythmic works—resonated strongly with the audience, drawing warm applause at the close of the evening.
The Embassy extended its gratitude to the British Council, Turkish Airlines, and Shangri-La Colombo for supporting the event.
