A shocking incident has been reported from the Elapatha area in Ratnapura, where a man brutally murdered his girlfriend by slitting her throat before attempting to take his own life by consuming poison.
Both individuals were university students, and initial reports suggest that the murder stemmed from complications arising in their romantic relationship.
The victim, a 29-year-old woman, was attacked inside her home after the suspect gained entry unnoticed. Using a knife, he fatally slit her throat before consuming a bottle of poison. He then placed the empty bottle on a table and fled the scene.
As he attempted to escape, he collapsed in a nearby field, where local residents found him and rushed him to Ratnapura General Hospital for treatment.
Authorities are currently investigating the incident.
