Thriposha production has been temporarily suspended following restrictions on maize imports, according to the Sri Lanka Thriposha Company.
The company stated that Cabinet approval had been granted to import 18,000 metric tons of maize for Thriposha production. However, the Controller General of Imports has submitted amendments to this decision.
Chairman of the Sri Lanka Thriposha Company, Amal Attanayake, explained that maize imports will remain restricted until the new Cabinet paper containing the proposed amendments is presented to Cabinet on the 7th and receives approval.
As a result, Thriposha production has been halted since the 21st. The Chairman further assured that production will resume as normal once maize imports recommence after the 7th.
In the meantime, the company confirmed that the stocks of Thriposha already produced are currently being distributed across the island.
