Three suspects have been apprehended in connection with the fatal shooting of a 73-year-old woman in the Bogahawawewa area, Padaviya.
The incident occurred on the night of December 5th, when two individuals on a motorcycle opened fire at the victim, who was inside her residence. Following the incident, the Padaviya Police launched an investigation.
On December 6th, officers from the Pulmuda Police Special Task Force arrested a 42-year-old suspect in the Kiriibbanwewa area, within the Welioya Police Division. The suspect was found in possession of a T-56 firearm and a revolver. He was subsequently handed over to the Welioya Police Station, where a detention order was obtained for further investigation.
During the ensuing investigation by the Padaviya Police, information led to the arrest of two additional suspects believed to have carried out the shooting. These individuals, aged 26 and 30, are residents of the Mahiyanganaya and Ehatugaswewa areas. They were apprehended along with the motorcycle allegedly used during the crime.
According to the police, the T-56 firearm recovered from the initial suspect was used in the murder. The suspects are currently being detained under court orders for further investigation.
The Padaviya Police continue to investigate the case to uncover more details about the incident.
