Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa told Parliament today that three children studying at Mahanama College in Colombo were subjected to serious sexual abuse by the school’s chief security officer on Saturday, October 4. He added that no clear action has been taken by the principal or teachers regarding the abused children, nor has there been any referral to medical professionals or the relevant security authorities. Furthermore, no action has been taken against the perpetrator of the abuse.
According to the Opposition Leader, when two teachers raised concerns about the incident, the principal allegedly threatened them, as well as the parents, warning that if they filed a complaint, the children could be taken to court and the cases could drag on for years. He also noted that the school has called for a protest.
Premadasa emphasized that a formal investigation should be conducted, and that the children must be provided with security and protection. He called for the sensitive matter to be thoroughly investigated, and urged that legal action be taken against the perpetrator without yielding to any external influence.
