Mr. Udaya Gammanpila stated that it is completely unacceptable that former intelligence chief Nilantha Jayawardena—who had provided prior intelligence regarding the Easter Sunday attacks—was dismissed from the police service at the request of the Church. He emphasized that, throughout history, not all attacks have been preceded by advance information, and therefore this dismissal is unjustifiable.
They attacked the Sri Maha Bodhi! They attacked the Temple of the Tooth Relic! They attacked the Central Bank! They never know until they attack! But for the first time in history, all the intelligence information was given—when they would attack, who would attack, and where they would attack! It was Nilantha Jayawardena who provided it! And yet, instead of rewarding him, he is being punished and sent home at the request of the Church. Is this what we’re supposed to do?
