There should be no businessmen appointed as ministers. The issue with the appointment of ministers and state ministers is not one of expenditure, but rather the appointment of illegible people, according to SJB MP Eran Wickramaratne today.

MP Wickramaratne stated at a press conference that the current issue in Sri Lanka is the conflicts of interest of those appointed as ministers.

“No businessperson should be appointed as a minister because the information they gather from the cabinet and the government as a whole will be used to grow their businesses. As a result, if any businessperson appointed as a minister resigns, “He stated.

“The constitution should also include the qualifications and eligibility for ministers. The subjects of ministries should be included in the constitution as well. Cabinet subjects should not change when heads of state change “He continued.

He stated that one should not focus solely on cabinet expenditure because there are numerous other issues concerning the cabinet in Sri Lanka.
