Under the existing laws, the presidential election will be held between September 18 and October 18, 2024, and a successor president cannot call a presidential election after 4 years, in order to do so, a 2/3 resolution of the parliament must be passed, and local government elections must be held before the presidential election. Professor G.L. Mr. Peiris said.
Claiming that there was no transparency in the discussions and proposals held with the IMF, Mr. Peiris said that the IMF agreement is scheduled to be submitted to Parliament, but a Sinhala and Tamil translation of the agreement has not been done so far, and the IMF agreement does not have the support of any MP representing the Freedom people’s congress.
