Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna’s Ampara Member of Parliament D. Weerasinghe says that recently the United National Party (UNP) lost seats together during the time of Mr. Ranil Wickramasinghe, and the Sri Lanka Freedom Party was destroyed and divided during President Sirisena’s time, and this kind of thing will not be allowed to happen. The MP said that the presidential candidate should be chosen by his party and not according to anyone’s agenda.
The member further said that divisions within the party would cause the same destruction as the United National Party and the Sri Lanka Freedom Party.
He also said that many talented young leaders in the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna are eligible for presidential candidacy.
Therefore, Parliament member D. Weerasinghe emphasized that there is no point in talking about the presidential candidate when there is a sea of people and what should be done is to protect the party.
