The ‘Yuan Wang 6’ ship has arrived in the Indian Ocean! Will it visit Sri Lanka this time?

It is reported that the Yuan Wang 6 (YW6), the sister vessel of the controversial Chinese satellite surveillance ship Yuan Wang 5 (YW5), which was docked at Hambantota port last August, has entered the Indian Ocean through the Lombok Strait in Indonesia.

In those days, the regional giant India expressed its deep concern regarding allowing the Chinese state-owned ship to dock at the Hambantota International Port (HIP), and due to this, a diplomatic conflict was created.

According to Open Intelligence analysts and MarineTraffic maps, the Yuan Wang 6 entered the Indian Ocean yesterday (5) evening with no destination port listed.

This is not the first time the Yuan Wang 6 has sailed into the Indian Ocean. It was reported that this ship was anchored in the Indian Ocean for almost three months in the first half of 2020.

News reports from India indicate that the Indian government is paying close attention to this vessel.

Neither India nor Sri Lanka has yet officially announced the arrival of the Yuan Wang 6 ship in the Indian Ocean.
