The initial objections presented by the Attorney General and the Secretary of the Ministry of Finance to dismiss two fundamental rights petitions submitted by the National People’s Force and Paffrel organization requesting a verdict that the basic rights of the people were violated by not holding the local government polls on March 09 as scheduled. The decision was announced today (27) by the five-member Supreme Court bench consisting of Mr. Buwaneka Aluvihare, Mr. Priyantha Jayawardena Vijith Malalgoda, Mr. Murdu Fernando and Mr. Gamini Amarasekara.
The petition was presented on behalf of National People’s Power by its Member of Parliament Harini Amarasuriya and former Member of Parliament Sunil Handunnetty.
The petition is still pending before the Supreme Court.
