The statue of Queen Victoria was built in 1897. It was by a British artist named George Edward Wade. It was later carried out at the Kings House in the Fort area where the British Governor of the British rule, named Mr. Gardron Garden’s period. The house later became the President’s House.
However, the statue was removed from the Presidential House, during Mahinda Rajapaksa’s presidency claiming having it is bad for the president.
