The special sub-committee of the opposition coalition appointed to study the proposed Broadcasting Authority Bill is scheduled to meet today (05) in the morning.

A spokesperson said that the committee will meet today at 9.30 am under the chairmanship of the chairman of the committee, Prof. Charita Herath.

Mr. Charita Herath said that he will inform all the leaders of the opposition including the leader of the opposition about his observations regarding the bill.

Meanwhile, the committee has planned to discuss the proposed Broadcasting Authority Bill with the heads of all media organizations in the country in the coming days.

The other members of the committee chaired by Member of Parliament Prof. Charita Herath are former Ministers of Media, Imtiaz Bakir Marker, Gayantha Karunathilaka, Dr. Harsha de Silva and Iran Wickramaratne.

It is alleged that the proposed bill would authorize the imprisonment of journalists, the imposition of fines on journalists and the revocation of electronic media licenses.
