When importing drugs into the country, the drug regulatory authority should appoint an expert committee to obtain permission for the relevant drugs. However, Dr. Ananda Wijewickrama also says that currently the Drug Regulatory Authority is not following that procedure.
He also says that even if an expert committee is appointed, in some cases, the National Drug Regulatory Authority will import even the drugs recommended by the said expert committee as not allowed for import.
Expert Dr. Ananda Wijewickrama says that if the Ministry of Health decides to import any drug, the National Drug Regulatory Authority should allow the Ministry of Health to import that drug.
Dr. Ananda Wijewickrama says that he makes this statement with the utmost responsibility.
