The question arises as to whether the current President Ranil Wickramasinghe, who has completely subjected the local government bodies to bureaucratic control without holding elections and without public representatives, opened the convention and performing arts centre owned by the Kandy Municipal Council, which was built in the city of Kandy for 70 crore rupees under a council compromise. Says Mr. Vipula Ranasinghe, a former member of the Municipal Council. Sri Lanka Latest News

Furthermore, the MP further mentioned that the President is violating the election rules by inviting the candidates for the provincial government election to this inauguration when the nominations for the provincial government election have been handed over.

He said that after the building named DS Senanayake Library and Auditorium was burnt down, the newly built auditorium was named Karaliya and it should be questioned why the name of UNP founder Mahamanya DS was removed from it.

Mr Ranasinghe said this while holding a press conference in Kandy today (17).

To the current UNP leader, it is not a problem party’s founder, DS Senanayake’s name being, removed from the Kandy Municipal Performing Arts Centre, but it is a problem for him and his group he said. He also emphasized that a group of people had gone on strike.

Mr. Vipula Ranasinghe said that he requested the Mahinda Rajapaksa government that existed before 2015 and the good governance government that was formed in 2015 to provide financial support for the construction of a new building in place of the burnt building. He also said that it is a valuable resource.

Mr. Sena Dissanayake, the former opposition leader, said that in the absence of public representatives, the Kandy Municipal Council is full of fraud and corruption from top to bottom and the public service is not being performed properly.
