The MRI machine in the special neurology department of the Colombo National Hospital not operational due to a fault in the cooling system. (Sri Lanka Latest News)
According to hospital sources, the special neurological examinations of patients referred by all hospitals in the island have been completely stopped due to this reason.
It is said that the neurological tests of about 25 patients per day are done by this machine and they are referred for the necessary treatment.
A hospital spokesperson said that since the Ministry of Health has not paid the company that maintains the machine, they had not come to repair the machine.
Currently, there are 4 MRI machines in the Colombo National Hospital, one of which has been installed in the newly built outpatient department. But it will take more time to complete the tests as data is being entered into it, a spokesman said.
The other two MRI machines are installed in the neurosurgery department and the epilepsy unit.
