The misery of a country, that sings religious chants from sunrise to sunset in 2022, is a spike in murder, shooting, and kidnapping.

According to police reports, 3596 kidnappings occurred in the first 11 months of this year for various reasons, according to Professor Wasantha Athukorala of Peradeniya University’s Department of Economics and Statistical Studies.

He stated that the number of kidnappings has increased by about 2800 over the previous year (2021). There will be 835 kidnappings in 2021.

As per police reports, 497 murders occurred in the first 11 months of the year, according to Professor Wasantha Athukorala of Peradeniya University’s Department of Economics and Statistics.

Personal murders by shooting or assault are said to account for 223 of the 497 murders.
