The local authorities’ term ends on the 19th! The commissioners are in charge! The new tenure will soon be announced by the government!

Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena says that steps will be taken to announce the new tenure of the local government institutions as soon as possible.
The Prime Minister mentioned that the relevant date will be announced in consultation with the Election Commission and Ministry officials.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Local Government has said that all public properties used by local government councilors should be handed over to the relevant institutions before the 19th.

State Minister Mr. Janaka Wakkambura stated that after 12 midnight on the 19th, after the end of the official period of the local government bodies, their governance activities will be transferred to the municipal commissioners and council secretaries.

State Minister Janaka Vakkambura also said that after the 19th day, the local government bodies should only carry out renovation work.
