Member of Parliament Udaya Gammanpila states that the government’s propaganda that a French President has visited Sri Lanka for the first time is completely false. Sri Lanka Latest News
He made these comments while addressing a press conference in Colombo.
For the first time in the history of independent Sri Lanka, a French president has come to Sri Lanka and the government is carrying out a massive campaign that France will help solve Sri Lanka’s economic crisis. This is another illusion. The French President did not come to Sri Lanka. Just came to the airport. Those who come only to the airport are called intermediate passengers or transit passengers. People who come like that do not care that they came to Sri Lanka. Passengers from Maldive Islands and India arrive at the airport in Sri Lanka and take flights to Australia without coming out of there.
According to the government’s logic, these Indians should be counted as tourists who came to Sri Lanka from Maldive Islands. We have a fair suspicion that the reason the government claims that Sri Lankan tourism is a remarkable development is because intermediate passengers going to other countries via Sri Lanka are counted as tourists.
When the French President got off the plane to wait for his plane to be refueled , he organized an emergency meeting and gave it a big publicity in Sri Lanka. I challenge the government to tell the country if there was a visit of the head of state, what agreements were made, what agreements were signed, what was the joint statement issued.
