It has been learned that the government has failed to present the agreement and its annexes to the parliament despite the debate in the parliament for 3 days about the IMF agreement.

The opposition demanded that the same agreement be submitted to the parliament from the day the relevant staff agreement was signed, but the government said at that time that it would be submitted to the parliament after the main agreement was signed.

Also, when Mr. Basil Rajapaksa, the former Minister of Finance during Gotabhaya Rajapaksa’s tenure, reached an agreement with the International Monetary Fund, Mr. Wickramasinghe, who was in the opposition at that time, strongly requested that the relevant agreement be submitted to the Parliament.

Mr. Wickramasinghe and Mr. Basil Rajapakse had a heated exchange of words during a discussion held in this regard.

Joining the debate today, Mr. Lakshman Kiriella also said that the government has not submitted the financial mediation agreement to the parliament so far.
