We will discuss Chundikulam National Park today in our column, which is one of our country’s most famous forest gardens. The Chundikulam National Park is located in the Northern Province’s Kilinochchi district.

This forest garden, which is located 12 kilometres away from the Kilinochchi town. The uniqueness in that is it is located in an ecosystem surrounding the lagoon. A population of tourist birds from various countries adds to the beauty of this park.

The Department of Wildlife Conservation manages Chundikulam National Park. This forest has more freshness and attractiveness than other parks. In connection with the Chundikulam lagoon, this ecosystem was gazetted in 1938. This national park reopened to the public in 2015, following the end of the civil war.

Chundikulam can be described as a beautiful environment with a large number of migratory birds. From October to February, the weather is extremely dry. The Chundikulam lagoon is another special place that attracts many migratory birds and kingfishers. Chundikulam is home to mammals such as leopards, elephants, bears, and deer, as well as crocodiles and saltwater crocodiles.

This is a birder’s paradise and an important location for bird watchers and researchers. This national park contains both native trees and extremely rare medicinal plants. Chundikulam has also won the hearts of wildlife photographers and environmentalists by providing stunning views of the early morning and evening sunsets.

The Wildlife Department also built a forest lodge in Chundikulam to accommodate tourists and researchers. The forest home can be reserved through the wildlife department’s headquarters. It should be noted that it is the duty and responsibility of all of us to leave to future generations of the nation this unique environment that has not been affected by environmental pollution
