As a United Nations organization, we are deeply concerned, said Mrs. Hanaa Hamdy, the residential cordinator of Sri Lanka, in a tweet.

She noted journalists and human rights activists have the right to supervise protests and activities. They should not be disturbed in any sense.

Attempting to stop peaceful protest could drag the country toward economic and political distress very quickly, she reiterated.

Furthermore, with the consultation of people and proceeding forward towards a full solution, the one and only path available, Ms. Hanaa Singar Hamad noted.

Gravely concerned by use of force to disperse protestors.
