Mr. Meryl J. Fernando, founder of Dilma Tea, died at the age of 93, according to family members.
Fernando was also the founder and former CEO of Dilma, a Sri Lankan tea company.
Fernando stepped down as CEO of Dilma in 2019 and was succeeded by his son Dilhan Fernando.
Merrill Fernando was born in Pallansena, Negombo in May 1930.
He was one of the first six students hired to train as tea tasters.
The Dilma brand is well known in Australia and New Zealand, and it is the brand that made Sri Lanka famous.
