The National Election Commission has sent a letter to Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena asking him to intervene in getting money for the local government election.
Mr. Nimal Punchihewa, chairman of the Election Commission, said that he forwarded the relevant letter to the speaker yesterday (24) afternoon.
We made an inquiry to Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena in this regard.
He mentioned that he has received the relevant letter and will discuss the issues in the future and take the necessary steps.
The Election Commission announced yesterday (24) that the local government polls will not be held on the 9th of March.
Accordingly, the date of the polling will be announced on March 3rd.
