The Election Commission decides to discuss with the government printer and the secretary of the Ministry of Finance!  A new election date will be announced next week!.

The Election Commission says that the announcement of the election date has been postponed to the first few days of next week.

The Election Commission met today (03) to decide a date for holding the election.

However, due to an order issued by the Supreme Court to the Finance Minister and its Secretary, the determination of a date has been postponed.

Election Commission Chairman, Lawyer Nimal Punchihewa mentioned that the date of the local government poll will be announced in consultation with the relevant parties including the Secretary of the Ministry of Finance, the press secretary and other relevant parties.

Accordingly, Mr. Nimal G. Punchihewa said that these discussions will be held in the first few days of next week and after that the date of local government polling will be announced. he further mentioned.
