In October of last year, a complaint about an exchange of words between the two of them with the member of parliament was investigated.
During a discussion on the proposal to reduce the personnel of the armed forces to 100,000 in the National Security Oversight Committee, Chandima Veerakkodi MP had made a proposal that as an alternative, the facilities provided to the senior officers of the armed forces should be reduced.
MP Chandima Veerakkodi has said during the investigation that the Defense Secretary and the Army Commander intimidated and threatened the MP.
At the beginning of the relevant discussion, MP Chandima Veerakkodi had expressed his views very peacefully, but the committee meeting later became heated due to the responses received from the people including the Defense Secretary, the report of the investigation reveals.
At the end of the investigation, Defense Secretary General Kamal Gunaratne and Army Commander Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage had been recommended to apologize to MP Chandima Weerakkodi.
Also, the Committee on Ethics and Privileges of the Parliament recommended that officials participating in the committees should be aware of the Parliamentary Powers and Privileges Act.
