The Colombo Magistrate’s Court ruled today (06) to reject a personal complaint filed against the former Governor of the Central Bank, Rajit Nivard Cabral, alleging that he misused government funds while acting as the Governor of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka.

Colombo Additional Magistrate Harshana Kekunawala gave this decision accepting the initial objections presented by Ajith Nivard Cabral’s lawyers.

Pronouncing the verdict, the magistrate noted that the plaintiff has failed to present sufficient facts to charge the accused.

Accordingly, the judge stated that the relevant complaint will be dismissed.

This personal complaint was filed by the former governor of Southern Province, Rajith Keerthi Tennakoon.

During the period from 2006 to 2015, acting as the Governor of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka, he paid US$ 500 million for international sovereign bonds and paid money to an American spy named Imad Sureri without the approval of the Council of Ministers, saying that it was to raise the image of Sri Lanka. The complaint was filed.
