The country’s rice yield fell by 53% as a result of Gota’s ban on the use of chemical fertilisers during the Maha  season in 2021.

A survey conducted by the Hector Kobbekaduwa Agricultural Training and Research Institute has revealed that due to the ban on the use of chemical fertilizers in the 2021 Maha season, the rice yield per acre in this country has decreased by 53 percent.

This survey has been conducted in the last quarter of 2022 and the first month of 2023 regarding the impact of the ban on chemical fertilizers.

According to the survey report, due to the ban on chemical fertilizers, the yield of maize dropped by 68 percent, onion by 52 percent, potato by 52 percent, and chili by 43 percent.

The Hector Kobbekaduwa Agricultural Research Institute says that vegetable cultivation has dropped by 57 percent and flower growers have left about 86 percent of cultivation.
