Colombo Additional Magistrate Pasan Amarasinghe yesterday (26) ordered the government coroner to hand over the coroner’s report related to the death of the former chairman of Ceylinco Group, Mr. Lalith Kotalawala, to the judicial officer. Sri Lanka Latest News

Orders had been issued by the court to send several parts of the deceased’s body to the government coroner and call for reports, and the court issued this order taking into account a request made by the Bambalapitiya police that the post-mortem report has been delayed due to the non-receipt of the reports.

These facts were presented when the magisterial inquiry related to this incident was called before the court.

It was also revealed in the court that due to the fact that these reports have not yet been received by the court, it has not been possible to announce the autopsy verdict regarding the cause of death of the deceased.

In connection with the death investigation of Mr. Lalith Kotalawala, eight people, including his wife’s sister, Sherin Pashan Wijeratne, and several employees who worked under him, gave evidence before the court during the post-mortem investigation.

According to a complaint made by his wife’s sister, Sherin Paeshan Wijeratne, to the Bambalapitiya Police, that the death of Mr. Kotalawala is suspicious, this case is called before the court.

Sherin Paeshan Wijeratne testified in court that two groups that worked under Mr. Kotalawala had taken possession of his property and kept Mr. Kotalawala at No. 13, Dikman Road, house for that purpose. Dr. Lalith Kotalawala, a well-known businessman in Sri Lanka, passed away on October 21, 2023. The police had reported to the court that he died while receiving treatment at a private hospital in Colombo and he was 84 years old at that time.
