The cruise, organized by the South China Sea Institute of Oceanography (SCSIO) under the Chinese Academy of Sciences, is said to cover more than 12,000 nautical miles.
It is revealed that the ship is expected to remain in the ocean for 80 days with 28 scientific research projects by 13 research teams.
The visit is expected to strengthen scientific research cooperation and exchanges with countries along the Maritime Silk Road and further realize the integration of science and education for the ‘Belt and Road Initiative’, said Lin, project leader and deputy director of SCSIO. Qiang has said.
With a total investment of more than 500 million yuan (about $77 million), Xi’an 6 is known as the flagship of China’s 3,000-ton vessels for deep oceanographic research.
It has not yet been confirmed whether the ship intends to visit Sri Lanka during this visit.
However, the Ministry of Defense has given approval for it to come to Sri Lanka.
