The Ceylon Electricity Employees Union says that the Act to privatize the Electricity Board should be withdrawn immediately.
Its General Secretary Mr. Ranjan Jayalal said this while attending a press conference held yesterday (10) in Colombo.
“A bill has been prepared to divide the Electricity Board into 15 companies. We have information that this bill will be submitted to the parliament in the next few days. This attempt must be thwarted. They have made a decision to operate these 15 companies in the country from October 1 after passing 6 weeks after the passing of that Act. They have taken a decision not to include the pension of Ceylon Electricity Board employees as a provision of this Act. The act of giving power board to companies should be withdrawn immediately. Otherwise, all trade unions of the Electricity Board will join together on the 21st and we will all leave the power plant office and gather at Viharamahadevi Park. It will be easy for the government…”
