Attorney at Law Swastika Arulalingam sent a letter to the Vice-Chancellor of Jaffna University on 02 stating that it is ridiculous that the Faculty of Law invited her to deliver a lecture on the independence of the judiciary when there is no freedom of expression in Jaffna University. When the lawyer went to deliver a lecture in the university on the 31st, and because she referred to LTTE as a fascist organisation she was resisted by the students and she could not continue in her oration. The lawyer has sent this letter because the students of Jaffna University did not allow her to conduct the lecture because the organization was introduced as a fascist organization.
Because of this lecture, she was even threatened by the students of Jaffna University, so she was not able to deliver the lecture properly.
The speech was to be held under the title ‘Independence of the Judiciary in times of crisis’.
