A team led by Consultant Dr. Sanjeewa Tennakoon (President) and Dr. Prabath Sugathadasa (Secretary) secured a historic victory by receiving an overwhelming majority of votes from the membership.

All members from this team who contested for the Executive Committee and the Central Working Committee were elected with a significant majority of votes. In contrast, not a single member from the rival group led by Dr. Haritha Aluthge and Dr. Darshana Sirisena succeeded in gaining a seat in either of the committees.

Following the election, the GMOA released the following statement:

“We Are a Non-Political Organization…”

The Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) is a non-political organization. Throughout history, the entire membership has always united against both external and internal attempts to politicize the association.

The defeat inflicted on the opposing team in this election delivers a clear message: the entire membership will unconditionally act against any individuals or factions trying to gain control of the association by promoting political or personal agendas.

The Largest Professional Association of Sri Lankan Medical Community

  • The newly elected Executive Committee of the GMOA is committed to further strengthening and safeguarding the association’s non-political stance.
  • Additionally, the committee will vigorously protect the professional rights of doctors and will intervene in all necessary areas to ensure the economic stability, professional dignity, and well-being of medical professionals.
  • Moreover, the GMOA will contribute in every possible way to protect free health care, free education, and medical education, which are currently facing numerous challenges in Sri Lanka.

The new Executive Committee, representing the largest professional body in the Sri Lankan medical field, will actively engage with all stakeholders and act with transparency and priority to safeguard the medical profession and the future of the association amid any future challenges.
