Thailand to Employ 10,000 Sri Lankan Workers Amid Labor Shortage

The Thai Cabinet has approved the recruitment of 10,000 Sri Lankan workers to address the country’s ongoing labor shortage.

The shortage has been exacerbated by the return of Cambodian workers to their home country following a recent border conflict.

According to the International Labor Organization, Thailand relies on at least three million registered foreign workers across key sectors such as agriculture, construction, and manufacturing. This dependency has grown as the nation grapples with an aging population and a shrinking domestic workforce.

In response, the Thai government has initiated plans to recruit workers from several countries, including Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bangladesh, Indonesia, and the Philippines.

Authorities further revealed that over 30,000 Sri Lankan workers have already registered, and in the first phase of the program, 10,000 will be granted employment opportunities in Thailand.
