Ten United Nations Special Rapporteurs have sent a letter to the President of Sri Lanka, Ranil Wickremesinghe, raising issues regarding the proposed Anti-Terrorism Bill and the Rehabilitation Bill.

The letter, which was signed by 10 special rapporteurs, pointed out 5 points, including the use of definitions of terrorism that are consistent with international standards, the establishment of accuracy and legal certainty, and the establishment of arrangements and measures to prevent and prohibit arbitrary deprivation of liberty.

It is stated in the letter that more attention should be paid to ensuring the implementation of measures to prevent torture and enforced disappearances, ensuring fair trials.

They have also pointed out in this article that the amendments to the Rehabilitation Bill are not fully compliant with the Constitution of Sri Lanka and international human rights laws.
