A pre-election opinion poll jointly conducted by Tamil daily Dinamalar and Chanakya has shed light on voter sentiments in Tamil Nadu regarding both central and state leadership.
The survey was carried out in March, covering a sample of 19,305 respondents across 70 constituencies. Among them, 55 per cent were aged between 25 and 50 years, 25 per cent were above 50, and 20 per cent were under 25.
According to the findings, around 42 per cent of respondents said they voted for the ruling DMK in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Meanwhile, 31 per cent supported the AIADMK, 11 per cent backed the BJP, and approximately 7 per cent voted for the NTK alliance.
When asked about the performance of the BJP-led central government, 32 per cent of respondents rated it as Excellent, 20 per cent as Poor, and 48 per cent as Average. On the Centre’s handling of international issues, 36 per cent rated it Excellent, 17 per cent Poor, while 47 per cent said they did not know.
Regarding Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s performance, 35 per cent of respondents described it as Excellent, 20 per cent as Poor, and 45 per cent selected either Average or No Opinion.
On the question of whether the Modi government is betraying Tamil Nadu, 40 per cent of respondents said No, 27 per cent said Yes, and 33 per cent chose “Somewhat.”
In terms of the DMK government’s performance in the state, 41 per cent rated it as Poor, 39 per cent as Average, and 20 per cent as Excellent. On the law and order situation in Tamil Nadu, 59 per cent of respondents described it as Poor, 32 per cent as Average, and 9 per cent as Excellent.
The survey also assessed the performance of Chief Minister M.K. Stalin and Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin. Stalin’s performance was rated Average by 40 per cent of respondents, Poor by 37 per cent, and Excellent by 23 per cent. In contrast, 45 per cent rated Udhayanidhi Stalin’s performance as Poor, 39 per cent as Average, and 16 per cent as Excellent.
