Ex-commissioner of the Sri Lanka Human Rights Commission Dr. Ambika Satkunanathan challenging the related bill. Petitions were submitted by Ambika Satkunanathan and others.
Those petitions were taken up today (23) by A.H.M.D. Nawaz, Shiran Gunaratne and Achala Vengappuli were considered before the three-member Supreme Court bench.
The petitioner’s lawyers mentioned that the prohibited statements in the amended bill have not been clearly defined and the related penalties have not been determined.
Accordingly, if the relevant bill is passed, it was requested to give a decision that it should be approved by a two-thirds majority vote and a referendum.
On that occasion, Additional Solicitor General Viraj Dayaratne, who appeared for the Attorney General, stated that the Attorney General would give instructions to the ministry in charge of the proposed amendments to the bill.
After considering all the facts presented, the three-member judge bench issued this order.
