Supreme Court will hear JJB’s FR application challenging the postponement of local government elections on June 9th.

The Supreme Court has ordered to convene on June 9th to consider the fundamental rights petition submitted by the National People’s Power against the postponement of the local government polls.

The petition was called today (03) before a Supreme Court bench consisting of Mr. Buwaneka Aluvihare, Priyantha Jayawardena, Mr. Vijith Malalgoda and Mr. Gamini Amarasekara.

The bench ordered to call on June 9 to consider the relevant petition.

The petition was submitted by National People’s Party Member of Parliament Harini Amarasuriya and former Member of Parliament Sunil Handunnetty requesting a verdict that the basic rights of the people including universal suffrage have been violated by postponing the local government polls that were scheduled to be held on March 09. had done
