The Supreme Court has ruled that former Health Minister Keheliya Rambukwella and several others violated fundamental rights by purchasing health supplies from an unregistered company under the Indian Credit Scheme in 2022, Sri Lanka Latest News reports.

According to the verdict, former Health Minister Keheliya Rambukwella is required to pay Rs. 75 million to the government from his personal funds.

Additionally, the judgment states that the then Secretary to the Ministry of Health, Mr. Janaka Chandragupta, must pay Rs. 50 million, while the former Chairman of the National Drug Regulatory Authority, Prof. S.D. Jayaratne, is also ordered to pay Rs. 50 million to the government.

The ruling further requires Dr. Vijith Gunasekara, CEO of the National Medicines Regulatory Authority, and Dr. Thusitha Sudarshana, former Director of the Medical Supplies Division, to pay Rs. 50 million in compensation to the government.

The three-judge Supreme Court bench, headed by Chief Justice Preethi Padmanabha Surasena, delivered this judgment following a fundamental rights petition filed by two parties, including Transparency International Sri Lanka.
